Bark Folk is an independent pet supply brand based in New York City, founded in 2026. We make dog supplies — harnesses, treats, beds, bowls, and rain gear — for dog owners who care about what's actually in and on their products.
Bark Folk started the way most things worth making start: out of frustration with the alternative.
Our founder, Maya, spent years buying dog supplies from the big players — the giant online retailers, the corporate pet store chains, the brands that sell you a product wrapped in a cartoon dog face with a cutesy name and ingredients you wouldn't feed yourself. She was tired of it. Her dog, a reactive terrier mix named Pimento, deserved better. So she started sourcing better.
What began as a personal project — finding grain-free treats from real suppliers, tracking down an actual orthopedic foam bed manufacturer in New Jersey, testing no-pull harnesses until she found one Pimento couldn't wriggle out of on 9th Avenue — became Bark Folk in 2026. The first product launch was twelve SKUs, a Shopify store, and a table at the Smorgasburg market in Williamsburg. By the end of that first weekend, she'd sold out of everything.
We're based in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, New York. We're a team of seven with an extremely clear point of view: your dog doesn't need another brand speaking to you in a baby voice. They need well-made, honestly-described products that actually work. Products that make the daily routines — the morning walk, the mealtime, the post-park rinse-off — go smoother for both of you.
Every product in our catalog has been chosen or developed for a specific reason. The grain-free salmon treats are made with wild-caught Pacific salmon, not farmed. The orthopedic beds use CertiPUR-US certified memory foam — four inches of it — because the cheap beds use two inches of filler foam and a quarter inch of real foam on top, and we know because we cut them open to check. The no-pull harness has a front clip and four adjustment points because we tested the ones with two adjustment points and watched dogs back right out of them at crosswalks.
The slow feeder bowl exists because one of our team member's dogs ate so fast he gave himself bloat and needed emergency surgery. That kind of thing focuses your product development.
We're not anti-big. We're anti-mediocre. If the big guys made better stuff, we wouldn't be here. They don't, so we are.
We ship to the United States and Taiwan. Free standard shipping on orders over $50; flat $5.99 under that. Returns are 30 days — defective or not, original condition, free prepaid label in the box, no restocking fee. We're also stocked by three independent pet boutiques in Brooklyn and Manhattan, if you'd rather see things in person before buying.
